Setting Up AI Providers in Tradyr
Don’t worry if you don’t have broker or AI keys yet — Tradyr’s Paper Trading mode and Yahoo Finance data source let you explore the full platform without any external accounts. And every new account starts with a 14-day free trial that unlocks all panels across every tier — Base, Pro, and Edge — so you can explore everything before choosing a plan.
Tradyr's AI features are designed to work with your own provider credentials. That gives you control over cost, model choice, and provider preference while keeping Tradyr flexible as the AI landscape changes.
What AI Powers in Tradyr
Once at least one provider is configured, Tradyr can use AI across the platform for strike-click analysis, Strategy Builder guidance, Flow Scanner interpretation, selected panel-level explanation cards, and broader research workflows.
If no provider is configured, the platform still works, but the AI-enhanced surfaces will either remain inactive or fall back to non-AI behavior.
The Supported Providers
Tradyr currently supports six providers:
- Anthropic - Best for deep reasoning, trade framing, and nuanced narrative explanations.
- OpenAI - Strong all-purpose performance for analysis, summaries, and structured responses.
- Google - A useful additional major-provider option through Gemini.
- xAI - A reasonable choice if you want Grok available alongside other providers.
- Perplexity - Best positioned for research-oriented workflows where current-information retrieval matters.
- Mistral - A solid additional provider for routing flexibility and cost/performance choice.
Tradyr no longer treats Copilot as an active app-provider option. If you still see it in a live provider surface, that is a product bug rather than intended behavior.
Where to Configure Providers
You can manage AI providers in two places:
- AI Providers - the dedicated provider-management panel.
- Settings > Services - the broader account configuration surface.
Both surfaces should reflect the same saved provider state. If a provider appears saved in one place but missing in the other, that should be treated as a synchronization defect.
Before You Start
You will need a Tradyr account and an API key from at least one supported provider. Tradyr encrypts stored keys rather than keeping them in plaintext, which is why normal authenticated account state matters when saving or updating provider credentials.
Step-by-Step Setup
Step 1: Open the AI Providers Surface
Open either the AI Providers panel from the dock or Settings > Services. You should see Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, xAI, Perplexity, and Mistral.
Step 2: Paste an API Key
Choose the provider you want to activate and paste the provider-issued API key into its field. Use the actual API key, not a project ID, org ID, webhook secret, or some other credential type.
Step 3: Validate the Key
Click Validate. A successful validation means the key format is acceptable, the provider endpoint accepted the credential, and the provider can be marked available for routing.
Step 4: Save the Provider
After validation succeeds, click Save. The provider should remain visible after reload, appear consistently in both configuration surfaces, and become eligible for AI routing inside Tradyr.
Step 5: Choose a Preferred Provider
If Tradyr offers a preferred or default-provider control, use it to indicate which provider should be tried first for normal analysis.
Recommended Provider Strategy
If you do not want to configure all six providers immediately, use this rollout order:
- Minimum setup: Anthropic
- Better production setup: Anthropic and OpenAI
- Best strategic setup for Tradyr-style usage: Anthropic, OpenAI, Perplexity, and Mistral
That combination gives you deep reasoning, strong fallback coverage, research-oriented retrieval, and additional routing flexibility. Add Google and xAI if you want maximum optionality.
How Validation Should Behave
Good validation behavior in Tradyr looks like this:
- valid key -> validates successfully
- save succeeds
- provider remains after reload
- provider appears in both provider-management surfaces
- AI-powered panels can use the provider
Bad validation behavior includes a valid key being rejected, save state appearing in one surface but not the other, providers disappearing after refresh, or obsolete providers still showing as active options.
Common Problems and Fixes
My key is valid but validation fails
Check for leading or trailing spaces, verify you pasted the real API key, and confirm the provider account is active. If the same key works directly with the provider but fails in Tradyr, that points to a validation-flow defect rather than user error.
The provider saved, but I do not see it everywhere
The AI Providers panel and Settings > Services should stay in sync. Reload once and check again. If the mismatch remains, treat it as a persistence or synchronization bug.
Password managers keep interfering with the key field
Tradyr is expected to suppress password-manager autofill behavior on API-key inputs. If hovering or focusing the field causes a password overlay to expand, that is UI friction and should be fixed.
Which provider should I use first?
If you only want one, choose Anthropic. If you want two, choose Anthropic and OpenAI. If research and current-information workflows matter, add Perplexity.
Security Notes
Your AI keys are sensitive credentials. Do not paste them into shared chat threads, do not store them in plain text files, and rotate them immediately if you believe they were exposed.
What to Test After Setup
After configuring at least one provider, verify a real workflow:
- select a ticker
- open an AI-enabled panel such as Strategy Builder or an interpretation-enabled panel
- trigger analysis
- confirm the response returns normally
That is the difference between "provider saved" and "provider actually usable."
Final Recommendation
For most users, the best first setup is Anthropic as primary, OpenAI as fallback, and Perplexity if research workflows matter. Tradyr benefits from multiple providers, not just one, so adding a second provider is worthwhile once your workflow stabilizes.
Next step: after your providers are connected, move on to your broker setup and then save your first custom layout so your AI-enabled workspace is ready every time you log in.
